March 21, 2012, the New York State Certificate of Still Birth law is enacted, after a 5 year fight involving hundreds of NYS parents and their families.
Still Parents NY is a grassroots organization made up of parents, families, friends, neighbors...working to pass the NY Certificate of Still Birth bill to honor the birth for families who have experienced the tragedy of a stillbirth.
New York State does not recognize the birth of a stillborn child. The only documentation a family receives is a fetal death certificate, by request.
Once passed, this bill would allow parents the option of receiving a "Certificate of Still Birth" to document the birth.
Since 2001, 31 states have passed similar bills. To learn more about the origin of this bill, please visit MISSing Angels Bill. (10/1/11)
Still Parents NY has been working since 2007 on the NY Still Birth bill, educating NY Assembly and Senate members on the importance of helping grieving families.
