Since the law was passed in September, we have been in contact with both the NYS Department of Health and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The development of the certificate is going well as they understand the importance of this new document.

NY Still Birth Law Public Signing

We have not been granted a ceremonial signing with Governor Cuomo yet. A public signing would be an unique opportunity to bring attention to the tragedy of stillbirths. For so many of us, the possibility of our child being stillborn wasn't a consideration.

NY Certificate of Still Birth PASSES

NY Governor Cuomo signed the Certificate of Still Birth into law on September 23, 2011 !!!


We will have information about how to obtain the certificate as soon as it is ready.

It has been a month since our bill passed the Assembly & Senate. While we have no new updates to report about when Governor Cuomo will sign the bill, we are still working behind the scenes with our contacts.



The waiting can be hard but we will pass along any information as soon as we have it.

Bill Would Help Parents of Stillborn Children

In June, both houses of New York's legislature passed the Still Birth Certificate Bill by wide margins. If signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo, the bill would give parents of stillborn children the option to get birth certificates and name their children. Currently, New York only issues death certificates in cases of stillbirth.

What an amazing night. The bill passed the full Assembly & the full Senate tonight (6/16/11).


Next stop is Governor Cuomo!
